Moving along…slow but sure

Another great day in Malawi! The volunteers are settling in to the Malawi lifestyle and adjusting well. We have been at Adziwa the past few days and although some things have moved slower than I had hoped we are moving forward. In Malawi we call that progress! This team is getting along so well and the dynamics have been great. Having a small group is sometimes more difficult because all members of the team getting along is important. We are working on the building of the 2 improved stoves, waiting for PumpAid to get rolling on the pump and also setting up a vegetable garden and tree nursery. We will plant 1000 trees before we leave for safari on Sunday. Yesterday the team work tirelessly clearing ground for the garden. It was back breaking work and everyone hung in and did well. We did get to see a few creatures emerge from the under brush, but just 2 rodents and they were quickly chased and killed. The local women all started laughing and shouting and as we looked up we saw them chasing them with their picks 🙂 it was hilarious and the gang got a good laugh! The weather has been hot during the day and chilly at night. Today was a bit overcast but the team was glad because they were so exhausted from yesterday! Today was lighter work with the hope that tomorrow they can dig in and get a bunch of things done. We had a short lesson today in seed planting so we will be ready to go tomorrow with that. We have organized one ton of compost to be delivered tomorrow. Hopefully that will fall in line and we will see bags of seedlings sprouting soon.
On my end I’m doing well. Approaching one month in Malawi has been interesting. I do feel that I have been able to accomplish quite a lot this trip and it is only because I had a week with no volunteers. I do however miss home and my family 🙁 I hope they remember me when I get there and that I can readjust to life with them effortlessly 🙂 love to all who follow the blog! Ill have some good stories tomorrow. Xxoo

It all started with an African massage. Which we soon learned was the code name for the bumpiest ride of our lives. It’s hard to complain about a bumpy ride when there are hundreds of children sprinting out of their houses genuinely excited to see you at every turn. Who knew an empty water bottle…

  • Last 2 days of teaching!

As many of you now know we had some strong weather damage some buildings at our project site in Malawi this past week. Not a great way for a community to start the new year. We were quickly made aware of the issue and began creating an emergency plan in order to help. Being such…
